Russia, Sergiev Posad (Zagorsk), Oct 1990
The monastery was founded in the 14th century by St Sergius of Radonezh, a highly revered Russian saint (named patron saint of the Russian state in 1422). It is one of the most important religious centers of the Orthodox world in Russia and has been inscribed on the UN World Heritage list.
The bell tower, one of the tallest in Russia, was erected in 18th century on Cathedral Square - the main square of the monastery. This unique tower was constructed from 1740 to 1770 during the reign of Elizabeth and Catherine the Great: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_Lavra_of_St._Sergius
