A Star Is Born

Experimenting with my Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens and an extension tube. The focal range sucks but the images are awesomely dreamy.

It's almost a macro or a close-up but then the background is very soft. Maybe you could show us a little more of these experiments with this specific lens.

The previous photo of the spider is another example. I'll see if I have any other similar photos that are good enough to post.

Okay, I posted another photo of a bee. The lens is a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II. It's fondly referred to as the "nifty fifty." It's super lightweight and super cheap, about $100 USD. (I have another Canon 50mm lens, which is an f/1.4, and it costs about $350 USD.) The extension tube is a Canon 25 II. It actually costs more than the 50mm f/1.8 II. But you can get cheaper ones made by Kenko. Here is a review page for the lens:

The only complaints I've ever heard about the lens is that it's noisy. Which it is. But, for $100, who cares?

Slight correction: The extension tube is an EF 25 II. It works with Canon's standard and EF lenses.

Thanks Coyote I have a Nikon, but I will do some research on this information.

It's been a long time since I did my own research, but I believe you can still buy a Nikon-to-Canon lens adapter.
